Does your child love telling stories, filming videos, or getting creative with a camera? If so, K12’s Reel Me Competition is the perfect opportunity for them to shine! This exciting contest encourages young storytellers to showcase their creativity, builds their confidence, and helps them develop valuable digital skills—all while having fun.
What is the Reel Me Competition?
Reel Me is a video storytelling competition for K12-powered students in grades K–12. It invites kids to create short videos showcasing how online school has helped them discover their authentic selves. Whether your child enjoys acting, making videos, or storytelling, this competition allows them to explore their talents in a supportive and inspiring way.
Why should your child participate?
Entering the Reel Me Competition is more than just a chance to win prizes—it’s an opportunity for kids to develop useful skills that will benefit them for years to come. By participating, your child can:
- Enhance creativity by crafting their own unique story.
- Build confidence by sharing their ideas and experiences through video.

How to Enter
Taking part in the Reel Me Competition is simple:
- Create a video. Your child can make a 60-second video based on one of these themes:
- My K12 Why. Why is online school the perfect fit for your family?
- Myth Busters. Address common misconceptions about online school and show the reality of your experience.
- Flex Your Schedule. Highlight how online learning gives you the freedom to balance school with hobbies, sports, or family time.
- Future Focus. Share your post-high school goals and how online learning is helping you prepare for them.
- Follow the guidelines. Check the competition rules for video length, format, and content requirements.
- Submit their entry. Upload the video through the official competition website before the June 30 deadline.
Judging Criteria
A panel of judges will determine one winner per grade band (K–2, 3–5, 6–8, and 9–12) for each theme based on the following criteria:
- Creativity (50%): Judges will evaluate the originality of the video, storytelling techniques, and unique presentation style.
- Authenticity (25%): Videos should feel genuine and reflect the student’s personal experience with online learning.
- Clarity & Engagement (25%): Entries should be clear, engaging, and communicate the student’s story effectively.
Prizes Your Child Can Win
Students have multiple chances to win cash prizes!
Judges’ Choice 1st Place: $250 will be awarded to one 1st-place winner per grade band for each theme—16 total winners!
Judges’ Choice 2nd Place: $100 will be awarded to one 2nd-place winner per grade band for each theme—16 total winners!
People’s Choice: $50 will be awarded to the fan favorite in each grade as determined by public voting—13 total winners!
