Women’s History Month: Educating and Inspiring Generations

March is Women’s History Month. This event has taken place since 1987, when the National Women’s History Project, which later evolved into the National Women’s History Alliance (NWHA), successfully petitioned Congress to extend National Women’s Week into an entire month.

NWHA is the sole source of information and training in multicultural women’s history for educators, community organizations, and parents who wish to enhance their understanding of women’s contributions to U.S. history. Each year, NWHA creates a theme for Women’s History Month, along with a convenient tool kit to educate others about women’s history and to provide ideas for celebrating this event.

What Is the Theme This Year for Women’s History Month?

The theme for 2025 is “Moving Forward Together: Women Educating & Inspiring Generations.” According to NWHA, “This theme celebrates the collective strength and influence of women who have dedicated their lives to education, mentorship, and leadership. Through their efforts, they have served as an inspiration for all generations — both past and present.”

This year’s theme is intended to spotlight women’s contributions to the American educational system, the free marketplace of ideas and the very fabric of our democracy.

How You Can Celebrate This Month

  • Set up tours to explore major landmarks in history around women’s history in the community

Education is crucial for transformation. In today’s ever-evolving world, we need educators to guide our learners toward a brighter future.
